About Chemical Peels
For the highest quality results from chemical peel aesthetic treatments, The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology provides you with excellent choices. Your individualized chemical peel with exfoliating solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, lactic acid, and VI peel ) will reveal smoother, healthier skin. At The Woodlands, TX office, our Firenze Derm Spa offers chemical peel treatments that decrease skin flaws, including wrinkles, fine lines, scars, uneven patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels clear away dead or damaged skin cells using an individualized solution on the skin that causes the surface layer to slough off. When your skin recovers and starts to repair and rejuvenate itself, you should see a smoother, clearer complexion. A chemical peel facial is a nonsurgical technique to make your complexion bright and is used for the face, neck, and décollatage.
Variations of Chemical Peels
In our The Woodlands, TX office, we provide chemical peels in various levels (light, medium, and deep) to fit your skin's aesthetic goals. Chemical peels remove the outermost layers of skin that are marked with imperfections and dead skin cells. There are different concentrations for different problems: the deep peel is used for more severe conditions, while the light chemical peel treats surface skin problems. Either way, chemical peels work to reveal the new, unblemished skin that lies just beneath the surface layer in order to disclose the younger, more vibrant you.
- Superficial or lunchtime peels
In a superficial peel, a mild acid, such as an alpha hydroxy acid, is applied to the skin to penetrate the outer layer and exfoliate. This treatment is mainly carried out as a way to improve the look of the skin. Issues, such as rough skin and discoloration, can be treated using a superficial peel on the neck, chest, hands, and face. We usually recommend that you get a light treatment, such as glycolic or lactic acid peel, once a month for glowing results.
- VI Peel
This a painless chemical peel that combines several different types of acid, is suitable for all skin types, and we recommend it for pigmentation, acne, and melasma. It is also good for sensitive skin types including those with underlying rosacea.
- Medium-depth peels
A medium peel, like a Jessner/TCA peel, is applied in a way as to penetrate the middle and outer layers of your skin with the primary purpose to eliminate dead skin cells. This helps with problems, such as wrinkles, fine lines, moderate discoloration, freckles, and age spots. A medium peel is also used to treat pre- cancerous skin lesions and smooth out rough skin.
- TCA Cross
TCA CROSS is the chemical reconstruction of skin scars (CROSS) using trichloroacetic acid (TCA).
The TCA CROSS procedure involves depositing small amounts of TCA at a high concentration (50–100%) into an acne scar. This causes a local inflammatory reaction leading to the formation of new collagen . We combine this treatment with an overall facial treatment and regimen to improve acne scarring.

"I don't usually post reviews but I have to give Dr. Gill and his team the credit they deserve. I got a tummy tuck in January and my experience has been fabulous from beginning to end. I had a ton of extra skin on my tummy and my abdominal muscles were separated from two pregnancies/c-sections. I had wanted to get a tummy tuck for a decade but I was always afraid to because of the cost, the pain, and the recovery time. I only consulted with one doctor because I felt at ease right away with Dr. Gill and his staff. They were so knowledgeable and professional, and took the time to answer all of my questions and ease any fears I had. Recovery was difficult at times of course, but it wasn't nearly as tough as I expected. I actually went back to work a week earlier than I had planned. My results are beautiful. I honestly can't believe what I see in the mirror every day! If you are thinking about getting any plastic surgery, this is the place to go!"- K.M. / Google / Aug 01, 2019

He is very knowledgeable and professional, and his staff is so friendly and so sweet. They all make you feel very comfortable throughout the whole process. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results of my surgery, and Dr. Paul Gill is the one who made sure to help me with making the right decision regarding sizing, etc. I highly recommend his office!!!!"- S.K. / Google / Jul 24, 2019
"A few weeks ago, I was a nervous wreck. I was sure that I wanted a breast augmentation, but I was completely unsure of what to expect. From the moment I walked into Dr. Gills office, he and his staff set my mind at ease. I am now 1 week post-op and extremely happy with the results. Dr. Gill and his staff genuinely care about your comfort and well being. I am so pleased with the care that I have received and look forward to the final results!"- T... / Google / Jul 19, 2019

Receiving the suggestions of an aesthetic specialist is the first part in the journey to healthier skin. A team member at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology will evaluate your skin during a consultation in The Woodlands, TX office before selecting a chemical peel for your ideal results. Chemical peel candidates of both genders typically have visible problems in their skin, like scars, rough patches, hyperpigmentation, flaky skin, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and more. We will recommend multiple types of peels to fit your goals. Good physical health is also a major requirement. The patient must be free from any active skin conditions. Another important requirement is that you are not on Accutane, a medication used to treat acne and have not taken the medication for at least a year and a half.
As the name suggests, light chemical peels — formulated with beta-hydroxy acids and alpha-hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, fruit acid — are used to remedy less severe symptoms, such as:
- Rough, dry skin
- Dull complexion
- Poor skin texture
- Acne and superficial blemishes
Deep peels, like Phenol or TCA peels, treat more severe skin problems, including:
- Coarse facial wrinkles or scars
- Deep expression lines
- Areas of blotchy or sun-damaged skin and freckles
- Precancerous growths
- Superficial blemishes
- Pigment problems
To schedule a chemical peel consultation, contact our office at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology today.
At your appointment at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, we will have you lying in a comfortable position to administer your chemical peel in one of our treatment rooms. A team member will ensure the skin is cleaned prior to applying the personalized solution to the treatment areas. We will massage the solution onto the skin and allow it to work for an appropriate length of time that will be determined in your chemical peel consultation. Finally, we will clean the peel off your skin and put on a neutralizing agent. We highly encourage you to bring sunscreen or a hat to wear outside following the procedure to protect from environmental exposure. Chemical peels are performed anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and the light peel takes as little as 15 minutes. You can return to your normal routine immediately after a light chemical peel treatment.
What to Expect
Based on the level of the chemical peel you choose, you should expect your face to peel and itch for a while (from a couple days to several weeks). Either Dr. Gill or a member of our team will talk about aftercare methods to treat your face during your consultation. Please remember that no matter how badly your skin itches throughout the post-treatment process, it's not helpful to pick the skin off. You may create scarring to your delicate skin! With a deep peel, you may need to arrange for assistance during the initial stages of recovery and limit activities as necessary. A crust or scab will form on the treated area, and then the new skin will begin to form within a week. It is important that you use sunblock regularly anytime you go outside.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Gill can talk about your costs during your consultation after he has decided on your chemical peel treatment plan. Costs for a chemical peel will vary, depending on the level you get. The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology takes several payment methods and you can ask about current specials on facial treatments, like chemical peels. Buying a package with several chemical peel treatments can also help you save money.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
Which level of chemical peel that is best for you will vary based on your specific skin needs and aesthetic goals. In your initial consultation with Drs. Paul or Anita Gill, he or she can help you select which chemical peel is best for your skin. A few things you might consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, the depth of your skin concerns, the time you can commit to recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. For first time peelers, it may be better to start with a light chemical peel and decide what you think of the results. After this, you and Dr. Gill might tweak your plan to discover the best type of peel for your needs.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Dermabrasion and chemical peels are both facial treatments that correct surface imperfections to give your skin a rejuvenated appearance. The major difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a shaving instrument or rotating brush) to clear away the surface skin layer with a careful exfoliating process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve dead and damaged skin cells. In your initial consultation, Dr. Gill will go over the pros and cons of each treatment and help you choose if dermabrasion or a chemical peel is better to achieve your skin goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Based on the formula selected, you might feel mild discomfort during the application process. If you have a light peel, you will probably notice a little discomfort; however, this can be alleviated with a small fan. Deep or medium peels are better for deeper issues and offer results that last a long time; however, they typically cause greater discomfort. Numbing cream, medications, and ointments may be used to help you feel more comfortable during your chemical peel. Dr. Gill or a member of our team will discuss skin care after your chemical peel to extend your results.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
For even greater improvements to your skin, you may combine a chemical peel with another skin treatment at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology. In your initial consultation, be open with Dr. Gill when describing your skin problems so he or she can develop a personalized treatment plan to best address your goals. Your plan might include an injectable treatment for wrinkles (such as Juvéderm or BOTOX), plus a chemical peel to refresh your entire face.
